3 Surprising Stats About Women and Nonprofits

In honour of International Women's Day, here are three surprising stats about women and nonprofits in this 21st Century.

1. Three in four nonprofit workers (75%) are female

Whether you're looking at Canada or the U.S., the numbers have been about the same for the last decade. Only 1 in 4 nonprofit workers is a dude. (Source)

2. Females are 3x more likely to consider a job in the nonprofit sector

When asked, female Canadians between the ages of 16 and 27 were 3-times more likely than males to say they are interested in the nonprofit sector. (Source)

3. Male nonprofit executives make a lot more money

In 2011, the average male CEO made 31% more than his female counterparts. (That figure dropped slightly to 27% in 2013.) Analysts don't know if this is because boards perceive male CEOs to be worth more, or if it is because boards are more likely to hire men to fill the top ranks of the biggest (and best-paying) charities.

When you're thinking about women today, don't forget to think about the nonprofit sector. There's a heck of a lot of us over here!
