Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

What is a "project"?

"Project Management" is a buzzwordy thing that all the kids seem to be doing these days.

"Project Management" is a buzzwordy thing that all the kids seem to be doing these days.

One of the skills that we chose to develop in our office this year is project management. Inevitably, that led to the question, What is a project?

As it turns out, there isn't a great definition of project out there - not one that applies to a nonprofit organization and/or a company that isn't large enough to have different divisions. Cribbing from some of the classics in project management and adding some of my own, here's my definition. Steal away, if it's helpful.

A Project is a unique, deliberate, coordinated pledge to do something that is intended to produce a specific result. Every Project has a defined start and end date (weeks or even a year) and requires the completion of series of tasks, often by more than one person, to produce the desired result.

Why are there so few biographies of nonprofit leaders?

Lesson #22: You don't *know* where you're going, but keep going there anyway
